Babe Ruth Arrives in St. Petersburg as a Nine-Foot Statue

Mark your calendars! On February 8, St. Petersburg will welcome a stunning nine-foot statue of Babe Ruth, crafted by Plant City artist Blake Emory. The piece, titled “Babe Calls the Shot,” will be unveiled at North Shore Park in St. Petersburg, FL. The 9’2″ statue commemorates Babe Ruth’s iconic moment in the 1932 World Series when he famously pointed to the outfield before hitting a home run at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

Event Highlights:

  • 9:05 AM: Preliminary softball game featuring youth from TASCO Teen Center of St. Pete.
  • Canned Food Drive: Donations benefiting St. Petersburg Free Clinic will be collected on February 4, February 6, and on game day, February 8.
  • 11:30 AM: Statue presentation with artist Blake Emory, Tom Stevens, and Mayor Ken Welch unveiling the sculpture.
  • 11:50 AM: The Kids and Kubs Annual Local Charities Awards presentation. Over the past year, the Club has contributed $2,301 to local charities and donated 287 lbs of food to the St. Petersburg Free Clinic.
  • 12:10 PM: Annual softball game featuring Mayor Welch’s City Hall Stars versus the Kids and Kubs All-Stars.
  • 4:30 PM: The Babe Ruth statue will appear in the Centennial Parade, sponsored by the Azalea Neighborhood Association, on St. Petersburg’s Westside.

Additional Information:
The event is free to attend, and donations to the food drive are highly encouraged. Enjoy food truck specialties and a fun-filled day celebrating Babe Ruth’s legacy and supporting local charities.

KIDS AND KUBS OFFER LOCAL CHARITIES THE OPPORTUNITY FOR ASSISTANCE IN FUNDRAISING

Kids and Kubs(aka Three Quarter-Century Softball Club) announced that the Club would make available dates for Saturday exhibition games. Charities may sponsor their clubs, churches, favorite charities, family reunions, or company picnics through fundraising efforts. All dates are open except when the City schedules heavy attendance events at the park.

St. Pete Chamber members interested in scheduling an event involving the Kids and  Kubs, call the Club’s office at 727-893-7108. Chamber members also may wish to promote their businesses in the Club’s brochure distributed at the ballpark and libraries, the Chamber visitors center, and other locations throughout the community. Kids and Kubs have a history of assisting local charities in fundraising. The ninety-five-year-old organization, known corporately as the Three-Quarter Century Club, has provided donations to such local charities as Boys and Girls Club of America, Day Star Life, Friends of the Sunshine Center, Habitat for Humanity, Neighborly Care Network, St Petersburg Free Clinic, St Pete Police Athletic  League, Suncoast Hospice, and St Pete TASCO Teens Center Programs.

Trust Fund earnings enabled The distribution of $2301 among ten local charities on Febuary 7 2024; including 287 lbs. of food and $440 in cash to the Free Clinic on the occasion of the Mayor’s Game. Moorman Photo

Charities vary yearly and have been presented since 1981 at the annual Mayor’s Game, occurring annually in February.

The Club’s Trust Fund, established in 1981, generates funding for these donations. The Club is a 501 (c) (3) Corporation that contributors become a part of The Kids and Kubs “Legacy.”

The very early years of fundraising occurred in a far different manner. Club archives tell of “pass the hat donations.” After and during the game, revenue goes to the designated charity for the day. St Petersburg’s nationally famous softball club for those aged 75 and over.
